EMA Publishes Ocrevus Liver Safety Update

By China Heal Plus · Updated

The European Medicines Agency published a safety communication on October 9 about liver injury associated with Ocrevus (ocrelizumab), a medicine used for multiple sclerosis. The notice was scheduled for distribution on October 8.

Liver Monitoring in Multiple Sclerosis Care

The communication identifies drug-related liver injury, including severe cases, and describes liver testing before treatment and further testing when symptoms suggest liver injury. It says the product information will be updated with the safety information. The notice concerns European prescribing information; it does not establish an identical regulatory change in the United States or China.

Questions for Your Neurology Team

Our practical takeaway for people reviewing ongoing MS care is to ask their treating team whether their monitoring plan reflects the latest local prescribing information. A specialist review should include the medication history and relevant test results. Decisions about continuing or changing treatment belong with the treating clinician.
